超高齢社会の現在において、腰部脊柱管狭窄症、頚椎症性脊髄症をはじめとした脊椎疾患が増加しており、その手術件数が増えています。特に、腰部脊柱管狭窄症は、70歳以上の約3割にみられるため、今後さらに患者数の増加が見込まれています。そして、高齢者において、全身状態不良の患者や強い骨粗鬆の患者が増えており、通常の脊椎手術で治療することが困難な症例も多数認められます。
そこで本講座では、新しい治療法の臨床応用を目指し、本学工学部の生体システム工学研究室と共同して脊椎に関する生体力学的な研究を数多く行っています。そして、われわれは、その蓄積した基礎データを基にして臨床的研究を進め、新しい脊椎インストゥルメンテーションや医用材料の開発・商品化を行っています。
